Name: Phil Barton

Where are you from:
Born in Carlisle. Have lived in Scotland for over half my life; almost thirty years. I hope that qualifies me as a honorary Scot, at least for the duration of, and related to all aspects of this tour.

Occupation:
Director of a residential care and education service for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Starley Hall is an independent service which celebrated a thirtieth anniversary in October 2011. We provide placements for young people from across local authorities across Scotland. I am privileged to be have been the lead person for almost thirty years.

Age, family details:
57 years old. Wife : Judith and have three sons James, David and Sam, aged from 34 to 30. Have three grandsons, Evan, Cameron and Noah aged 5 to 3 years old. Have a farming background, which continually makes a mark on my life.

What is your club/are your clubs:
Inverkeithing is my mother club. Proud to be current Vice President of this Fife club, which recently celebrated its 175th anniversary. Also a member of Preston CC, affiliated to the English Curling Association.

Proudest achievement in curling:
Being on this tour.
Representing England at four Senior World Championships
Playing a sport with my sons in the same rink (looking forward to playing with my grandsons).

What are you doing now in curling:
Being a committee member and president elect of Inverkeithing Curling Club.
English Curing Association Council member.

What motivated you to come on tour:
An opportunity to curl in Canada with some of the best club curlers in Scotland.

What are you most looking forward to/what have you enjoyed most about tour:
Looking forward to being part of a rink over many games, so experiencing the special feature of curling – team work.
Revisiting Vancouver Island, toured here in 1993 on rugby tour.

Any specific roles in the tour planning and/or during the tour:
Overall tour secretary

Other sports/interests:
Was a serious rugby player, and now play golf (when work and curling allow). Curling is the perfect team sport.
Enjoy Music and my allotment.
Involved in running number of social and fund raising ventures.

    Congrats on being player of the day. Have been following your progress on and off the ice. Keep up the good work! It all sounds great. Will have to wait 10 years, however, for my opportunity. Make the most it.
