Occupation, some detail: Retired in 2006 after working for the Bank of Scotland for 40 Years. Started in the Bank in Kirkcaldy, Fife straight from school and worked in every Division of the Bank including Branches, Internal Audit, Lending Control, Corporate Banking, IT and ended my career as Head of Cash and Clearing Services for the UK with 650 staff based in 5 sites across the UK. From 2006 until 2011 was the Chairman of the Cheque & Credit Clearing Company. This Company is owned by the UK Clearing Banks and manages the clearing process and rules for cheques and interbank settlement in the UK.
Age, family details: Age 63 Married to Margo for 41 years. Have 2 sons Stephen and Iain and 1 grandson Cameron, aged 9.
What is your club/are your clubs: Have been a member of Bank of Scotland (Fife) Club for 30 years and have served on the committee for a number of years and I am a past Captain. Also a member of Kennoway Curling Club which is based in the town in which I was born and brought up.
Proudest achievement in curling: Played third in the rink that was runners up in the National Masters Championship in 2012.
What are you doing now in curling: I am the Chairman of the Board of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club and have served on the Board for 4 years with a further 2 years to serve to complete my term. I am a Director of British Curling and I serve on the WCF Governance Commission who have been tasked to review the structure of the WCF and to rewrite the Constitution. This task will be completed by 2014.
What motivated you to come on tour: Ideally I would have wished to have been on the 2003 Tour but unfortunately work commitments prevented me from applying. I have therefore been looking forward to this Tour for the past 10 years.
What are you most looking forward to/what have you enjoyed most about tour: I am looking forward to making new friends and having an enjoyable experience.
Any specific roles in the tour planning and/or during the tour: I am Captain of the East Tour and have been a member of the Executive Committee.
Other sports: Golf and cycling.
Other interests: reading and music. I played the trombone and tuba for a number of years in brass bands and orchestras but have not played for a number of years now.
Anything else of interest: In 2006 I cycled from Lands End to John o’ Groats (1000 miles) in 9 days and I am currently cycling the coast line of the UK in stages. I started in John o’ Groats and have covered all the east coast and have reached Bournemouth on the south coast.
