Where are you from?
Now been 11 years in Livingston (nr Edinburgh), before that lived for 40 years in South Ayrshire (nr Turnberry). Spent first 2 years of my life near Stranraer – home to the famous Ian Macpherson (Team 5)!!

Currently work in Edinburgh with the Scottish Government’s Agricultural Dept, checking that grants to farming and rural sectors from European Commission funds are claimed correctly. Previously farmed for 20 years in Ayrshire on family farm with dairy, beef and arable enterprises.

Age and family details?
52 and live with wife Kate and our 8 year-old twins Sarah and Lewis and 6 y.o. Anna. Plus our oldest ‘child’, a ginger dog called Milly !

What is your club/are your clubs?
Currently play with DAFS (Dept of Agriculture & Fisheries – Scotland). Also a non-playing member of Gangrels CC, who I started curling with in Ayr (70 miles away) when I was 14.

Proudest achievement in curling?
Becoming Scottish Champions in 1985 with Billy Howat (West Tour), playing in the Silver Broom in Glasgow. Al Hackner representing Canada won the event.

What are you doing now in curling?
Primarily club curling with DAFS but now also some more inter-club events. Member of the UK Civil Service Curling Squad.

What motivated you to come on tour?
The chance to curl in Canada and meet more Canadians. However, this has been my aim for 30 years since my Dad returned from the 1983 tour.

What are you most looking forward to/what have you enjoyed most about tour?
Meeting new friends and curling with and against great folk. Having fun on Tour is compulsory.

Any specific roles in the tour planning and/or during the tour?
Providing things to do on the longer bus journeys – – like handing out eyeshades to combat sleep deprivation !!

Other sports?
Retired social footballer, lapsed golfer.

Other interests: My young family, catching up with friends, horse racing – including ‘investing’ in Jimmy Raeburn’s horse!

Anything else of interest?
I’ve been to Canada 4 times (incl. Olympics in ’76) before but never to curl and have friends of over 35 years near Belleville, Shelburne and Pearson Airport. Belleville friends own Trillium Wood Gold Course. Was best man at a wedding at Carlton Place, Ottawa in 1999.
